                  <text>Floyd Wilmer Coffman, 1889-1961, was inspired by his military experience to become a successful veterans' advocate, civil servant, and businessman in Harrisonburg, Virginia. An early recruit to the Army's new aerial photographic reconnaissance arm, he missed seeing combat by just three days. However, as the Assistant Secretary of War's special photographic aid in 1919, he toured allied airbases and the war zone. During this tour, as a trainee and instructor at Langley and Love Fields, and while researching Our Fledgling Air Corps he collected the photographs that are now part of Massanutten Regional Library's digital collections.</text>
